The symptoms you describe are exactly what I experienced when we
upgraded to Oracle 8 and didn't relink SQR against the new Oracle
libraries.  You didn't say what platform you were using, but I would
double-check that you are actually running the copy of the SQR
executable that has been relinked with the new libraries.

Also, make sure your Oracle installation is correct (make sure SQL*Plus
runs, check $ORACLE_HOME on Unix, etc.).

If these ideas fail, I would contact Brio tech support....
